Dear Neighbor,
My name is Kara Moore. I have been a resident of Danville for the last six years. I am a wife and mother and educator. I have been a public school educator for 13 years and have a masters degree in education leadership. I most recently taught here in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District at California High School until taking a break to raise my now 3 year old. I am very passionate about education and public education as well as the influence it has on a community. I care deeply about educating all children and giving them the best education possible.
With all that said, I am writing this letter to show my full support of Karin Shumway as area 2 representative for the San Ramon Valley Unified School District School Board. Karin was one of the first people I met when we moved to this community and she has been a friend, confidant, cheerleader, supporter, and much more ever since. Karin has a beautiful gift of caring so deeply about others and she will take on whatever life brings right by your side. I witnessed this very personally three years ago when I was diagnosed with breast cancer while in the middle of a pandemic. Karin rallied a team in my support, had t-shirts made, constantly checked in on me, and planned a surprise celebration welcome home after my final chemo treatment. I know how busy Karin is with her own family of five kids but she still constantly makes time for me and mine.
Karin and I often are able to connect and go on walks together and I am constantly amazed by all the people she knows. But the thing is she doesn’t just know who people are, she knows them. She knows what is going on in their world. She knows their kids. She knows their good and bad and everything in between. And often when I find out someone is going through something hard and I stop by to support or bring a meal, Karin has already beat me there. Karin serves everyone around her with her whole heart no matter their background, beliefs, or culture. She is very fluent in the universal language of love.
On a different note, as an educator, I know the value of teachers, parents, administrators, and students all working together. Each piece is so critical and when all are on the same page amazing things can happen. As I talk to Karin, I see her understanding of this and her desire to give all a voice. We need more of that in our public schools.
Karin and I have had many conversations about how much we love this community and I know that as a school board member, Karin will serve with as much heart and love and interest as she always does. She has had her own kids in school in the district for many years and has volunteered in the schools often. She talks to teachers, administrators, parents, and kids. She will be a great voice for our area. Please join me in supporting Karin Shumway as our representative for the school board.
